    EUROPEAN BUSINESS & BIODIVERSITY INITIATIVE

    João Portugal Ramos Group has been part of the European Business & Biodiversity Initiative since 2012, a European Network whose main objective is to focus on the relationship between business activity and biodiversity. Its aim is to promote the contribution of the business sector to the protection of biodiversity, thereby preserving at a local, regional, national, and global scale.

    PROTECTION OF ENDANGERED SPECIES

    Also, one of Duorum's properties, Quinta de Castelo Melhor, is partially placed in two conservation areas included in the European conservation network (Natura 2000), namely a Special Protection Area for Birds and a Special Area of Conservation for Habitats.

    GROUP'S VINEYARDS CERTIFIED FOR INTEGRATED OR BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTION

    All the group´s vineyards are certified for Integrated or Biological production, which means restricting as much as possible the use of pesticide treatments to control pests or diseases.

    NATURAL FERTILIZERS FOR OUR SOILS

    The company reuses 100% of the subproducts that result from the grapes' vinification (stems), as well as the organic substance resulting from pruning, to fertilize the soils.

    CAREFUL CHOICE OF DRY GOODS

    The Group uses 420g light glass bottles in 61% of its production, thus reducing the waste of material and natural resources from the bottle production, while helping to diminish carbon footprint associated with the transportation of wines.

    SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

    At João Portugal Ramos Group, there is a permanent concern with all those surrounding the company at social, economic and environmental level. Employing more than 130 people, the company also supports over 20 different local institutions as well as national humanitarian organizations.

    OPTIMIZED WATER CONSUMPTION

    Use of drip irrigation in the vineyards, supported by meteorological systems and specialized software, allows the Group to have an optimized water consumption, especially in the Alentejo, a very dry region. The data from the weather stations installed in the vineyards and the daily monitoring of the technical teams, allows JPR to adjust the use of water in the plants.
